Dr Tessa Wassenberg
Biography
Tessa Wassenberg is Head of the Division of Child Neurology at the University Hospital Brussels and Assistant Professor at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel in Brussels, Belgium where she is involved in clinical care, teaching and clinical research. Her main interests are neurometabolic disorders, movement disorders and rare neurological disorders.
She studied medicine at Maastricht University and subsequently completed her training as a neurologist at Radboud University Medical Centre in Nijmegen, the Netherlands, in 2018, and her fellowship in paediatric neurology and metabolic disorders in Brussels in 2020. In 2021, she completed her PhD thesis, 'Monoamine neurotransmitter disorders: from biochemical aspects and clinical observations to recommendations for management', at Radboud University Nijmegen.
She is the first author of the iNTD consensus guideline on the diagnosis and management of AADC deficiency and a co-author of the iNTD guidelines on BH4-related disorders and TH deficiency. She is a member of the board of the Belgian Paediatric Neurology Society and a passionate member of the Young European Paediatric Neurology Society's working group on climate change and sustainability.
